FT2000 - VL1000 Quadra Connections

  • Data 2 on the back of the VL1000 goes to TX.REQ using pins 9 and 11.  9 is common.
  • Band data to band data
  • EXT ALC on the FT2000 to ALC1 on the VL1000.
  • Remote switch on the VL1000 is ON

FT2000 - Serial Cable

Pin for Pin.  ie 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc. Set menu CAT TOT greater than 1000

FT2000 - Keying the Voice Keyer via CAT control

To key the inbuilt voice keyer via the serial cable, enter this into the loggers macro line:
For example, in N1MM CQ F1 button.

  • {CAT1ASC PB0#;} where the # is number 1 to 4 for the message banks.
  • {CAT2ASC PB0#,} where CAT2 is for the 2nd rig.
  • {CAT1ASC EX0841;} changes the FT2000 to accept PC audio and
  • {CAT1ASC EX0840;} switches back to Microphone

USEFUL CAT COMMANDS

  • {CAT1ASC PB##;} Playback from pre-recorded memories. Where ## = 00 for stop, 01 - 04 for playback etc.

Eliminate the need for a WinKeyer interface when contesting

(It's all about speed and not wasting time turning the keyer on and off all the time.)

You can eliminate the need for the Winkeyer box by changing the following menu setting:

MENU 056 R KEYER TYPE - Set this to OFF

Using N1MM Contest Logger (or similar) in CW contests has its own straight key keyer built in. The CW cable plugs in to the rear of the rig, usually from a COM or LPT port. The Keyer on the radio must be off for this to work.  Most of us like an iambic key plugged into the front of the rig for hand sending  also. This requires the Keyer on the radio to be on, or use something like a WinKeyer interface to do the keying for you, with the rigs Keyer in the off position.

Plug the Iambic keyer directly in to the front panel jack and turn the Keyer on. N1MM will send the CW and will not be affected by the Keyer being turned on.

FT2000 - Set up SSB Data Modes

  • For receiving data audio, I run a lead from the AF out to the Line in on the computer.
  • For Transmitting, a lead is run from the PC speaker out to a buffer circuit, and then to the packet connector on the rear of the FT2000.
  • Menu 148, VOX SELECT must be set to dAtA
  • The VOX button on the front of the radio must be on.
  • Set the level of audio being sent so the transmitter goes into TX. Try adjusting the PC and Menu 71 so that there is no overdriving or clipped signals.
  • See the software page on different programs and settings for the FT2000.
